黄泉がえりの湯「つぼ湯」

日本最古の共同浴場と言われる湯の峰温泉の「つぼ湯」は、世界文化遺産でありながら実際に入浴することができる貴重な温泉。2~3人が入れる岩穴から温泉が湧いています。日本に古くから伝わる物語「小栗判官」で、一度死んだ小栗が49日間湯治を行った、黄泉がえりの湯として登場します。

Tsuboyu, the water of rebirth 

Known as the oldest hot spring in Japan,Tsuboyu bath at Yunomine Hot Spring is also the world’s only registerd world heritage bath.  Two to three can fit in this stone pool into which pure hot spring water flows.  An old legend tells of Oguri Hangan, a man who died once, and after a 49-day soak came back to life.  From this story comes the pool’s name, the water of rebirth.
